So here we are closing in on the end of 2019, and making plans towards 2020. Was anyone else pretty disappointed in the ball drop the first time they saw it? I mean c’mon! That’s the best we got? Here is one ball drop that won’t disappoint. The cheese ball! I don’t know about your New Year’s Eve celebration, but for ours, we typically have a cheese ball. You know the lump of cheese that is great with crackers and in my case, addicting!
So when I was first thinking of a blog for this month, I was thinking about peppermint cookies, which I did make, but that was down in Omaha over the break, and it didn’t make it in front of a camera. So today, as I’m realizing that there is no time to pick up ingredients, and we have been snowed in our house the last 2 days from a pretty monsterous blizzard, I decided to make the cheese ball early and get it posted here for you guys. You probably won’t use it for New Years Eve, since it is today, but it is a great appetizer or snack for any occasion.
Cream cheese facts:
Philadelphia is the number one cream cheese brand in the US.
You can make it at home easily.
It has many wacky flavors.
There is a bagel offered at the Westin Hotel in Times Square that has white truffle cream cheese, Riesling jelly infused with goji berries and topped with a gold leaf. It is said to run $1000. I don’t know about this!?!
So let’s get started. Start with a brick of cream cheese and shred your cheddar cheese. I used both sides of the grater. I can’t decide if it is because I wanted variety, or just wanted to make it that much harder to wash.
Next, we incorporate the sour cream, Dijon mustard, Worchestshire sauce, smoky paprika and Everything Bagel seasoning.
When you have all of that mixed together, place it on a sheet of plastic wrap and form into a ball.
Place pumpkin seeds in a bowl and roll the cheese ball around until it is covered.
Wrap in plastic wrap and chill overnight. Serve with crackers and/or vegetables.
New Year’s Eve Cheese Ball
8 ounce package of cream cheese
8 ounces of shredded, cheddar cheese (I used sharp cause I’m a fan!)
1/4 cup sour cream
1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
1 Teaspoon Worchestshire sauce
1/8 tsp smoky paprika
1 Tablespoon Everything Bagel Seasoning
Pumpkin Seeds
Mix all ingredients together well. Roll in pumpkin seeds. Refrigerate over night. Serve with crackers or veggies.
Look at that frost! My husband and I had just gotten back from a 6hr drive from Omaha where it was almost 60 degrees. We drove in the yard to see everything just thick with frost. Tired from our drive, we decided to go for a walk down to our trees. It was so beautiful. Winters here are pretty harsh sometimes, but it comes with some pretty awesome backgrounds!
Job 37:10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
